I’m one of the few people that actually enjoyed Star Wars Outlaws when I got to play the base game and the DLC a few months back. So when I learned it would be releasing on the Switch 2, I knew I had to see how it would turn out. Thankfully Ubisoft went above and beyond to bring us Star Wars Outlaws: Gold Edition, which sticks its speeder landing on Nintendo’s latest console with all of its DLC in tow for some fun space adventuring on the go.

For those who haven’t experienced this title or know little of it, it follows the adventures of a young smuggler named Kay Vess, who is living the typical Star Wars dream of being a nobody while longing to be somebody having adventures throughout the galaxy while making credits along the way. She gets more than she bargained for when she takes on a job that leads her on a few mishaps and misadventures at first, but before you know it she’s piloting her own spaceship with a ragtag crew helping her out.

As with most of their games, Ubisoft has the action-adventure feel and controls down to a science. Kay can take cover behind objects while firing off her trusty blaster at enemies, sneak around and stealth her way through areas while taking down foes quietly, use a grappling hook to climb and swing her way to victory, and use her pet-like buddy Nix to reach areas and door controls beyond her reach, and be a handy pickpocket or distraction to enemies when needed.

Once you’re done with the base game, there’s more adventure to be had with the two DLCs, the first being “Wild Card” that not only challenges your action skills, but also how good you are at the card game Sabacc. You also get to team up with the always cool Lando Calrissian which is a plus for Star Wars fans. The “A Pirate’s Fortune” DLC has you teaming up with fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka who requires aid in one of his latest smuggling endeavors, and Kay and her crew just happen to be the perfect solution to his problem that quickly becomes yours to deal with.

I have to admit that Ubisoft did an awesome job bringing this massive game to the Switch 2, as everything from the previous PC and next-gen console releases is here, including cross-platform save files. That’s right, you can play this on your Switch 2 and resume your session on your PC or other console later if you choose.

As long as you keep your expectations in check, and can deal with occasional graphic pop-in, the game being locked to 30fps, and not being as visually polished as the other versions, you’ll have a good time here. The music, voice acting, and sound effects are also great and fit this adventure perfectly.

If you enjoyed this adventure before and want to play it on the go, you’ll want to stop by your local trading post and pick up Star Wars Outlaws: Gold Edition. Ubisoft did an amazing job porting this experience over to the Switch 2 that reminds me of when developers used to push the SNES and Sega Genesis to do things you’d think it couldn’t do. Here’s looking forward to more companies pushing Nintendo’s little powerhouse even more.
