Out of all of the headphones I’ve tried using, I’ve never had the chance to experience some that only feature the bare essentials for listening to audio, aka a sound monitor pair. Leave it to our friends at Audeze to make one of the best monitoring headphones around with their Audeze MM-100 Professional Headphones. If you’re into audio production or just enjoy flat, bare sound, these are the headphones to lose yourself in.

Thanks to Audeze’s patented waveguides, magnet arrays, and diaphragms coming from their newly designed 90mm planar magnetic drivers, the MM-100 delivers precise, ultra-low distortion audio that lets you hear audio in its rawest form.

It was awesome being able to hear different instruments and sounds in some of my favorite music that I never really noticed before, thanks to the how the MM-100 strips the music down to its bare parts. It also doesn’t hurt that these headphones were designed in collaboration with Grammy award-winning engineer/producer Manny Marroquin (the MM in MM-100), who has worked with numerous rappers and musicians.

I’m used to headphones being closed-back and cutting you off from the rest of the world either slightly or by a large margin, so it took a bit of getting used to these being open-back where they let in sound around you. Somehow Audeze managed to pull it off where you’re still able to hear whatever you’re listening to loud and clear, yet can still hear if someone is knocking at your door, calling you from another room, and such.

The MM-100 feature a solid chassis made from tough yet light magnesium and steel, gel-filled earpads that feel good on your ears. An adjustable suspension strap make these headphones feel to super light that you’ll forget you’re wearing them as you listen to stuff and still hear sounds around you. I also like how you can plug in the included (and long) audio cable into either side of the MM-100, so you don’t have to worry about it being in your way if working from your left or right side. This was a nice touch!

While these are a bit pricey at $400, if you’re in the market for studio quality headphones that are perfect for monitoring any audio or music production, you’ll want to pick up the Audeze MM-100 Professional Headphones. Everything sounds clean and clear with just enough bass and treble to balance out the highs and lows so that everything is heard with a nice balance, all while still letting you be aware of your surroundings for professional headphones that are hard to beat.
